COUNTY SEAT PROJECT

In the summer of 2007, the term “County Seat” in downtown Hamilton took on a whole new meaning. Citizens and visitors to downtown Hamilton strolled, paused, sat and admired 38 unique, artist-designed benches. These benches were displayed on both sides of High Street in the downtown business district, on both sides of Main Street in the first two blocks of the Main Street business district and on both sides of the new High-Main Street Bridge .

These beautiful benches were on display throughout the summer, beginning with presentation of awards to the winning artists on Saturday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. during the Main Street Festival of the Arches.  A team of City of Sculpture volunteers matched generous community sponsors with creative artists to achieve their goal of downtown streets fill with art for the summer.  All benches were marked with the name of the artist and the name of the bench sponsor.  Some sponsors purchased their benches with their sponsorship.  Others sponsored benches were sold at auction after the exhibit.

THANK YOU to all sponsors of this very exciting and successful County Seat event!

When It Rains It Pours

Fundraising for When in Rains It Pours was a great success! This bronze water sculpture by Miles Metzger was placed on Main Street at the new Armstead Park where other features in the park are a bandstand, park benches, donated trees and a memorial to the late Roy Bond, former businessman and president of the Main Street Area Association. THANK YOU to all contributors for helping to support the Main Street Area Association in the Armstead Park project.

The Protector

The Hamilton Police Department received a generous donation from Pat and Donna Carruthers for the construction of a Police Memorial Plaza.  Their gracious donation enabled the police department to erect an everlasting memorial. Citizens and businesses were a part of history through purchasing pavers with personalized messages on the plaza area. The H.P.D. Memorial Plaza was unveiled on December 2, 2005.
